i grew up in the city of orange, right in the middle of orange county, california. when i was a kid there were orange trees everywhere and they could be smelled for miles in every direction. these days they've all been replaced with homes and strip malls.
the first photos i remember taking were in 7th grade for my jr. high yearbook. the extent of that education consisted of a camera being handed to me and nothing else so that first experience of taking photos turned out to be quite uninspiring and i didn't take another picture for a long time after that. nearly four years into college, bored and generally unmotivated about school, i took a photography class to try to impress a girl who was taking photography class 2000 miles away. she didn't work out but this time the photo thing did. the first time i dipped my fingers into those rancid photo chemicals and saw an image begin to develop i was hooked. after exhausting all the photo classes at that college, i relocated an hour north to los angeles to study at art center college of design.
by the time i graduated, i was already shooting regularly for most of the local magazines and within a year i was traveling the world on assignment. since then, i've been fortunate to continue working with many of the best magazines, ad agencies, and design firms in the world. i’m amazed by the range of assignments i get, from portraits and lifestyle to travel, architecture and food but i believe it’s the love of telling a story through my lens and an endless fascination with the people and world around me that’s allowed me to cover such a range of subjects with success.
i’m a tireless worker, always enthusiastic, easy to get along with, a quick thinker and problem solver, a great traveler, and a somewhat pleasant person in general. most importantly, i’m passionate about what i do and love the challenge of creating something fresh and unique with every assignment i’m given.
i live in los angeles with my amazingly patient and gracious wife cristine and our two beautiful daughters rachel and jenna.
